　　The next day was Saturday. 第二天是星期六。

　　Fern stood at the kitchen sink drying the breakfast dishes as her mother washed them. 弗恩站在厨房水池旁边，把妈妈洗干净的早餐盘子擦干。

　　"Fern," said her mother sternly, “弗恩，”她妈妈严厉地说，

　　"you must not invent things. “你再也不可以胡编乱造了。

　　You know spiders don't tell stories. Spiders can't talk." 你知道蜘蛛不会讲故事。蜘蛛根本不会说话。”

　　"Charlotte can," replied Fern. “可夏洛会，”弗恩回答说，

　　"She doesn't talk very loud, but she talks." “它说话不很响，可它会说话。”
