Cosmetic¹ surgery has been existed for a long history. In 8th century, an Indian surgeon described what is known today as rhinoplasty( 鼻整形术) and otoplasty( 耳整形术).

整容手术在很早以前就已经存在。8世纪时，一位印度的外科医生记录了当今被称为鼻整形术以及耳整形术的手术过程。

However, with the fast development of medical technology, the scope of cosmetic surgery has been raised to a far broader extent. What's more, anaesthesia (麻醉法) has made procedures less unpleasant and less dangerous.

而今，随着医疗技术水平的高速发展，整容手术的范围已逐渐被扩大了。而且，麻醉的应用也减少了手术过程中的痛苦感与危险性。

It's important to distinguish the terms "plastic surgery" and "cosmetic surgery".Plastic Surgery is dedicated² to the surgical³ repair of defects of form or function——this includes cosmetic surgery, as well as reconstructive surgery. The term "cosmetic surgery", however, refers to surgery that is designed to improve cosmetics⁴ alone.

区分“整形手术”与“整容手术”两个词语的不同是很有必要的。整形手术是对有缺陷的外形及功能的修复，这其中包括整容手术以及再造手术。而整容手术只是用于增进美观效果。

The most prevalent cosmetic procedures are listed below: abdominoplasty(腹部整形术), breast implants(丰胸术), blepharoplasty(眼险整容术) ,buttock augmentation(丰臀术) and so on.
