On September 7, 2007, China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC) published Survey Report on the Internet Usage in Chinese Rural Area. This is the first full-scale survey report concerning the macro Internet development situation in rural areas that has ever been published in China.

2007年9月7日，中国互联网络信息中心发布了《中国农村网络使用调查报告》。此次大范围的调查是中国有史以来首次针对广大农村地区网络的发展情况进行的。

The report shows that the scale of Internet users in Chinese rural areas had exceeded 37 million. However, comparing with urban users, the application level of rural users is less developed. The report shows that 66.5% of rural users read online news, while the proportion in urban areas is 81.5%, which is 15 percent higher. 65.8% of the rural users use search engines while the rate in urban areas is 13 percent higher(78.4%). Besides, much fewer users in rural areas have ever touched online purchasing, online banking¹ and online stock trading.

报告显示，中国农村地区网民已超过三千七百万。然而，农村网民的网络应用水平低于城市网民。报告显示，66.5%的农村网民在网上阅读新闻，而在城区这一比例为81.5%，高出15%。在农村，65.8%的网民使用搜索引擎功能，而在城区该比例则高出农村13%，占到78.4%。除此之外，农村网民对网上购物、网上银行以及网上股票交易的使用程度也较低。
