Russia has warned the United States that it will start responding to ceasefire violations in Syria unilaterally, if the U.S. refuses to coordinate rules of engagement against violators.
"If there is no reaction from the US to our suggestion, starting 22 March, the Russian Federation will unilaterally begin to apply the rules provided by the agreement. Military force will not be used against groups, peaceful people and civilians, as a result of the ceasefire agreement," said Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoi, Russian Military General Staff.
Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoi said Russia had sent the US a revised Syrian ceasefire agreement on March 5th. But their consultation in Oman last week revealed "a lack of readiness" on the American side for discussion and approval of the text. Russia said on the weekend that further delays to finalise a deal were leading to civilian casualties. And it cited Aleppo, where 67 civilians were reportedly killed by militant fire since the truce started.
