Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon died on Saturday at the age of 85.

Israel will hold a state funeral for Sharon on Monday.

Sharon will be laid to rest at a site close to his family's Sycamore Ranch¹ in southern Israel.

Local media reported on Sunday that his casket will be stationed in the Knesset (parliament)

in order to allow the public to pay their last respect.

Sharon died at the Sheba Medical Center in central Israel after eight years in a coma² following a 2006 stroke.

The iconic statesmen and retired³ general was one of the most influential⁴ and controversial figures in Israeli politics.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas vowed⁵ Saturday

to respond to Israel's continued settlement activities on Palestinian lands occupied by the Jewish state within 48 hours.

He rebuked⁶ Israel for announcing the building of more housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
