　　Earth raised up her head from the darkness dread¹ and drear, 大地抬起她的头，从那可怕又阴郁的黑暗中抬起，

　　I hear the father of the ancient men. 我听见古老人类的父亲

　　'Selfish father of men! 人类的自私的父亲

　　Cruel, jealous, selfish fear! 残酷的嫉妒的自私的胆战心惊

　　Chained in night, 在夜里锁着的

　　The virgins⁷ of youth and morning bear. 青春的处女与晨星欢欣，

　　'Does spring hide its joy, when buds and blossoms grow? 春天可掩饰它的欢乐，当花苞和花朵都在成长？

　　Does the sower sow by night, 播种者呢？可在夜间播种？

1 dread
