The world is changed.

这世界改变了。

I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.

我从水中感觉到。我从地上感觉到。我从空气中嗅到。

Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it.

过去的一切都已失落。现在没有人记得了。

It began with the forging of the Great Rings.

这一切都从铸造魔戒开始。

Three were given to the elves. Immortal¹, wisest and fairest of all beings.

精灵族得到三只戒指。他们长生不老，也是最有智慧 最公平的种族。

Seven to the Dwarf² lords, great miners and craftsmen³ of the mountain halls.

矮人族分到七只戒指，他们擅长挖掘矿坑，是山洞的能工巧匠。

And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, desire power.

而人类则分到九只戒指，他们比别人更贪图权利。

For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race.

每只戒指都拥有统治各种族的意志与力量。

But they were all of them deceived. For another ring was made.

但他们都受到欺骗。因为另外还有一只被铸造了。

In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom⁴, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a Master Ring to control all others.

在魔多末日火山的烈焰中，黑暗魔君索伦暗地里铸造了可以奴役世界的至尊魔戒。

And into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice⁵, and his will to dominate all life.

他在魔戒中注入他的邪恶、残酷，以及统治天下的可怕欲望。

One Ring to rule them all.

一只驾驭一切的至尊魔戒。

One by one, the Free Lands of Middle-earth fell to the power of the Ring.

一个接一个，中土世界的自由之士感受到至尊魔戒的力量。

But there were some who resisted.

但是有些人群起反抗。

A Last Alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor.

组成了精灵和人类的最后同盟，对抗魔多兵团。

And on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-earth.

他们在险恶的末日火山为中土世界的自由奋战。

1 immortal   

adj.不朽的；永生的，不死的；神的

参考例句：

• The wild cocoa tree is effectively immortal.野生可可树实际上是不会死的。

2 dwarf   

n.矮子，侏儒，矮小的动植物；vt.使…矮小

3 craftsmen   

n. 技工

参考例句：

• The craftsmen have ensured faithful reproduction of the original painting. 工匠保证要复制一幅最接近原作的画。

4 doom   

n.厄运，劫数；v.注定，命定

参考例句：

• The report on our economic situation is full of doom and gloom.这份关于我们经济状况的报告充满了令人绝望和沮丧的调子。
• The dictator met his doom after ten years of rule.独裁者统治了十年终于完蛋了。

5 malice   

n.恶意，怨恨，蓄意；[律]预谋

参考例句：

• I detected a suggestion of malice in his remarks.我觉察出他说的话略带恶意。
• There was a strong current of malice in many of his portraits.他的许多肖像画中都透着一股强烈的怨恨。
