Economists¹ have played down the prospect² of a recession in Australia after the economy contracted in the September quarter. The Bureau of Statistics says gross domestic product shrank by half a percent from June to september. The federal treasurer³ Scott Morrison says the figures show why parliament must pass the government's economic legislation.
