Reporter: With the theme of "Ecology, Information and Life", this year's Urban Tec Asia, the fourth of its kind, aims to address the most painful urbanization problem - ecological1 damage. Top intellectuals and businesses from around the world will focus on how to bring cities back to its original function- serving the people and facilitating daily life.
Hans Stoter, is the General Manager of Koelnmesse, UrbanTec Asia's main organizer.
"Urban Tec Asia is a three in one event, including exhibition, conferences and match making. The profile for the exhibitors this year will be around smart city solutions, internet related intelligent transport and vehicles, which is the key topic of this year, green building and smart energy."
A three-day high-profile conference will gather officials and experts who will deliberate on the future of intelligent and human-centred cities.
Hans Stoter outlines the agenda for the conferences.
"We will have a session involving many city mayors from across China on smart city strategy and innovations in smart cities. Then on second day the 30th of May we'll have different sssions, one related to green building, and one related to intelligent transportation systems, and the third day the 31st of May we focus on energy saving, environmental protection and smart education".
Liu Lin, Deputy Director of China International Fair for Trade in Services, says UrbanTec Asia has been part of the annual CIFTIS ever since its launch. It is by far the most internationalized segment of CIFTIS.
"Urban Tec mainly focuses on smart strategies. It's not just about the cutting-edge technology, but also about urban planning, urban design, small town transformation2 and detailed3 urban management. This exhibition includes all those aspects."
Data from China National Statistics Bureau shows, China's urbanization rate reached more than 54% in 2014. Growing cities are causing serious problems that affect quality of life, such as traffic jams, smog, overpopulation and pollution.
This year, there'll be 83 companies from 15 countries and regions, including China, Germany, America, Brazil, Sweden, and Portugal, participating in the Fair. Key exhibitors include German auto4 maker5 Daimler Mercedes Bens Group, American electric car maker Tesla Motors, and German green building consultancy Drees & Sommer. China's Zhongguancun Group will also occupy a pavilion at the fair.
According to Liu Lin, transaction volume at the 3rd CIFTIS reached 81.3 billion USD, of which international transactions accounted for over 40%. Urban Tec contributed to much of that.
Hopefully, at this year's fair, policy makers6, urban planners and businesses will find the smart city master-plans, related technologies and solutions to make cities more livable for their inhabitants.
