 Grimly he stumbled on after the browsing¹ goats. Presently he lifted his eyes to the sound of a plane's motor. 他无意中发现了这些吃草的山羊，他的眼睛跟随着天上的飞机引擎。

Why, it was coming back! All the planes were returning from the air meet. 为什么，它回来了！所有飞机从聚合地点回来了。

Arrow swift they held their course, zooming² with a burst of sound. Two planes circled now, then climbed and hung in midair. 飞机迅速地朝着同一个方向飞行，发出响亮的声音，两架飞机开始旋转，之后爬升，在空中悬停。

A third dipped and pinwheeled to the earth. Clint caught his breath. His friend of the morning! He ran forward. 第三架飞机下降，向地面旋转下降，克林特屏住呼吸，早上他的朋友，他向前跑。

Oh, yes. It was he that pulled the vote for you! Me? Yes. For the scholarship. He drew out an official-looking envelope. 没错，是他为你投票的，为我？没错，为了奖学金，他拿出了官方模样的信封。

But the tests, faltered³ Clint. I—I don't understand. The pilot laughed. 克林特支支吾吾地说，但是测试，我不明白，飞行员大笑。

You passed them last night and this morning. Emergency test, endurance, skill-of-hand, and stay-on-the-job qualities and all that sort of thing. 你昨晚和今天早上通过了考试，紧急测试，忍耐性，手上技巧，工作稳定性等等这些。

He tossed the certificate to Clint and started his engine. In a daze⁴ Clint read the certificate. 他将证书扔给了克林特，并开动了引擎，克林特茫然地读着证书。

At last he began to understand. His heart pounded unbelievingly. You! cried the boy, running after, are you the world flyer? 他最终明白了，他的心脏难以置信地跳跃着，男孩大叫道是你，他跑来跑去，你是顶级飞行员？

The pilot answered with a mischievous⁵ twinkle. See you the fifteenth, he grinned. 飞行员用调皮的笑容回答道，我们15号见，他笑道。

I am going to give instruction at the air school for a few weeks. 我将去飞行学校上几周课。

With a friendly wave of the hand he soared upward to join his fellow planes. 他向克林特挥动友谊的双手，之后冲上云霄，和其它飞机会和。

The world flyer, repeated Clint, his eyes following the fascinating glint of wings. And I too shall fly! 克林特重复道，世界级飞行员，他的眼睛闪烁着翅膀的光芒，我也应该飞翔。
