This year, through its many outlets¹ the BBC is examining the concept of freedom and what it is. In this programme we look at what freedom isn't. We start in 1841,when Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York State was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south of the United States. His story laid forgotten for a couple of centuries until now.
