 Tropical cyclone¹ Marcia is rapidly gaining strength as it heads for central Queensland as is expected to be a dangerous category five system when it crosses the coast early Friday morning.Communities from Mackay to the New South Wales border are on alert for high winds,Flood warnings have also been issued.Thousands of residents in the Northern Territory are also taking shelter as cyclone Lam gathers strength.It's expected to be a high end category four by the time it makes landfall.It currently west, north west of Nhulunbuy and is moving south west toward Elcho Island.

 

The prime minister says his comment linking Australia's response to the Boxing tsunami²  with calls for clemency³ to the Bali Nine pair was a reminder⁴ to Indonesia and not a threat.A spokesman for Indonesia's foreign ministry⁵ says threats are not part of diplomatic language and no one responds well to them.

 

A British police are examining video footage in a bid to identify Chelsea soccer fans apparently⁶ abusing a black man in Paris.The video shows a man being pushed from a train while a group chants "we'll racist⁷ and that's the way we like it.'The football club says any fans involved face a ban.
