Dreamworld is defending its safety record amid questions over maintenance standards at the theme park. Dreamworld says the "Thunder River Rapids" ride, which malfunctioned¹ on Tuesday, killing² four people, underwent its annual inspection³ just four weeks ago. But the Australian Workers Union says it raised safety concerns at the park on numerous occasions. Dreamworld has announced it will reopen tomorrow for a special memorial day.

Forensic⁴ teams have combed streets in Melbourne's south east where a man was shot by police. The 26-year-old has undergone surgery overnight on his torso. The shooting occured after police pulled over a suspicious vehicle in Dandenong yesterday afternoon. It's alleged⁵ the passenger fled, at one point trying to carjack another vehicle, then pointing a weapon at the officers. Police say they pulled out their firearms when the man refused to drop his gun.
