Queensland police say they're still piecing together details about an ordeal¹ involving a young British backpacker. The 22-year-old woman was allegedly held against her will — and repeatedly assaulted — during a two month road trip. She was rescued on Sunday after police intercepted³ a vehicle with a 22-year-old man hiding in the back. He's been charged with multiple serious offences.

It's alleged² the man stole the identity of a doctor in India more than 10 years ago before he managed to migrate to Australia and gain citizenship⁶ using false documents. He worked at Manly⁷, Hornsby, Wyong and Gosford hospitals up until 2014.
