Police have praised a woman they say died trying to save her two children after her van slipped into the Tweed river in the north of New South Wales yesterday. Divers¹ have now recovered three bodies from the vehicle. The woman's eight-year-old daughter - who was also in the van - managed to escape and raise alarm.

The Russian health minister, says the death toll⁵ from the bomb blast on the metro⁶ subway in St Petersburg has risen to 14. Forty-nine people were injured in the attack. Meanwhile, a Russian news agency is reporting that St Petersburg metro station has been closed after an anonymous⁷ phone call warned of another possible attack.
