Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace, 一天晚上，我从沉睡中醒来，

And to the presence in the room he said, What writest thou? The vision raised its head, 他冲着房间里的天使说，你在写什么？目光抬起了她的头，

And, with a look made of all sweet accord, 一张甜美的脸庞出现了，

Answered, The names of those who love the Lord. And is mine one? said Abou. Nay¹, not so, 她回答道，那些钟爱上帝的人名单，阿布说我是吗？还不是。

Replied the angel. Abou spoke² more low, 天使回答道，阿布再一次缓慢说到，

But cheerily still, and said, I pray thee, then, 但依然高兴地说到，我祝愿你，

Write me as one that loves his fellow men. 把我写成钟爱上帝子民的人。

The angel wrote and vanished. The next night 天使写下了名字并消失了，第二天晚上，

It came again, with a great wakening light, 天使又来了，发出耀眼的光芒，

And showed the names whom love of God had blessed. 显示那些钟爱上帝的人得到了保佑。

And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest! 看，本·阿德罕姆的名字在第一位。
