Max: [内心独白]When I boarded I was 24 years old. And I only cared about one thing in life. Playing the trumpet¹ (小号). 

[对老板说] I’m selling it. 

 

Shopkeeper: Conn. Not bad. 

 

Max: Best brass² (黄铜) money can buy. 

 

Shopkeeper: Could buy? These days...Six pounds ten shillings, best I can do.

 

Max: The price is...twenty...twenty-five dollars. That horn (小号) is all my life, mister. 

Even just being a nobody has got to be worth than twenty lousy ['lauzi] (倒霉的) bucks³. 

 

Shopkeeper: That’s how things are. I suppose it’s barely worth half of the crown (克朗，旧时英国及其多数殖民地、属地使用的货币，1克朗=5先令=0.25英镑). Shut the door when you leave, please.

 

Max: Okay, pops (大伯，老爹). You win. You just bought yourself a piece of musical history.

 

Shopkeeper: Now if you want my advice, go out and treat yourself to a decent (体面的) meal.
